Jesmonite Silverback

Cast laminate in  Jesmonite AC100. Jesmonite ltd commissioned me to cast a replacement for their Gorilla in their showroom which they gave as a retirement present to a colleague who i knew when i worked there. I made the mould over 10 years ago but still in good condition due to the woven qualaxial glass matting i embed in all my moulds that prevent the silicone from tearing and massively increased the rubber’s longevity and the stability of a Jesmonitie support casing.

All my support casings from Jesmonite. Although slightly heavier than fiberglass and costs more, unlike fiberglass it doesn’t warp, achieving far superior alignment, allowing higher quality casts, saving time and reducing costs of finishing. Being water based is environmentally friendly, no fumes so is non-toxic to the user thus is preferred over fiberglass resin for moulding on-site in artists studios.
