Space for Nature
Space for Nature Spiral and Swooping House martins 2023 – Tanya Russell
On Castle Fine Arts foundry recommendation I joined forces with Rich from The Lost Foundry to design and mould the colossal 6-meter-high and 12-meter-long spiral sculpture and two House Martins with a 2.4meter wingspan. Around 40 x 1 sqm sections.
Despite the practical challenges of working at such heights, a silicone spray rig from Polysil eased the process. The real technical hurdle was designing a de-moulding sequence to avoid mechanical locks as well as from the numerous undercuts while ensuring the intricate details Tanya desired could be faithfully reproduced in wax casts.
Overcoming these challenges, we successfully moulded the massive sculpture, contributing to the realisation of “Space for Nature” at Chelsea Creek.
